Learn proven techniques to protect yourself and loved ones
At EPF we are committed to providing practical self-defense and fitness training to our students. Our mission is to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves, their loved ones and maintain health throughout life.
EPF believes that self-defense is the center of your martial arts training. If you are a martial arts/combat sports athlete, at the center of your training is how you perfect your skills as a fighter, warrior, and citizen. The how and why are at the core of learning self-defense.
We hope to provide you with information around point fighting but also martial philosophy, fitness, training and most importantly, self-defense.

In Korean and Japanese martial traditions there are three tracks for the basis of their various schools of fighting. One is called a path/way (do). The second. Jutsu, is technique or art. Lastly you have Jitsu.
The goal of a style that emphasizes “do” is usually more spiritual and as part of their training aims to develop character, respect, mindfulness, and discipline in its practitioners.
Jutsu styles are on the art and how the techniques are performed. It has a spiritual component to the learning process. How you learn the technique and the way that you experience it are all part of the training.
Jitsu styles or schools are looking to ground their students in military or practical applications of fighting. Here there are fewer techniques, and the goal is efficiency and practicality.
We are more of a hybrid of the three. However, our training will and does have at its center the goal of training our students on how to defend themselves, which means that we teach them with more of a military basics' idea around self-defense. Even if a student wishes to be a combat sports athlete, we always relate what they are training on to how that same maneuver or technique could be used in a self-defense situation.
Originally, this page was created to promote a book called, “Elite Point Fighting and the Meaning of Life” by instructor Darius Prewitt. Now it is about how we train our students in their lives as martial artists, leaders, athletes, and human beings. Core to this mission is always learning self-defense in the modern world.
We offer a range of programs, from traditional martial arts training to cutting-edge self-defense techniques. Our programs are designed to be both challenging and rewarding, and are suitable for students of all ages and skill levels.

Twice a month we will post videos of various instructors and ask them all the same questions. After they have done this they will be given 5 minutes to talk about anything that they want to talk about. We will never edit our videos so that you can get exactly what they are talking about in their own words.
The set questions are: 1. How long have you been training? 2. How long have you been teaching/coaching? 3. What are your favorite aspects of teaching your style? 4. How would you explain your teaching methods? 5. What is your favorite part of training? 6. What is your favorite technique to use or teach? 7. If one of your students is struggling with a technique, how do you identify it and how do you correct it? 8. How do you handle disrespectful or aggressive behavior in class? 9. Do you consider yourself to be a traditionalist or modernist instructor? 10. What is something that you wish your instructor had trained you on but did not? 11. What is the most important skill/technique or idea that you believe a student should learn? 12. Name a martial artist, teacher, or competitor that you admire and why?

I am a huge fan of Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson. He is a poster boy for traditional martial arts and adopting it to MMA style competition. Well worth a gander.

We teach any and everyone. We have three tracks of instructions. 1. Track one is for those interested in martial arts training for the health, fitness, or discipline benefits. 2. Track two is for those who are interested in combat sports training. 3. Track three is for the person interested in learning how to become a trainer, coach, or instructor.
For most classes, you will need to bring comfortable workout clothes only. The classes are done in bare feet. Some classes may require additional equipment, which will be provided for you.
We are called Evolution Martial Arts. We teach a hybrid style of karate called Goju Shorei and Tae Kwon Do. We are part traditional and part modern. We emphasize self-defense from a traditional military philosophy.
